 P1 Resistance

Syllabus Summary Questions Answers

   1.  A current of 0.2 A flows through a 500 Ω resistor.

        Voltage V is:

        V = Current x Resistance

        V = 0.2 x 500

        V = 100 V

   2.  Resistors in series:

        Two resistors are connected in series, R1 = 100 Ω and R2 = 1000 Ω

        The total resistance R = R1 + R2

        R = 100 + 1000

        R = 1100 Ω

   3.

  • For a given voltage, increasing the resistance in a series circuit decreases the current.
    .

  • For a given voltage, decreasing the resistance in a series circuit increases the current.

       Higher tier only:

  • For a given voltage, as the resistance of the parallel circuit is smaller, the current increases.
