Did you know?

The heating effect produced by the electric current flowing in a wire is used in the back window of a car to keep it clear of water vapour.

 P1 Electric current - Cells & Batteries

Syllabus Summary Questions Answers

Electric current

Electric current is the rate of flow of negatively charged electrons around an electrical circuit.

Electric current is measured in amperes (A) using an ammeter.

The ammeter is always placed in series in a circuit.

The higher the current, the greater the flow of (charges) electrons.

  Cells / Batteries

Cell or a battery makes charges flow in the circuit.

A cell has two conductors (electrodes) in a conducting liquid (electrolyte).

The electrodes of a cell must be connected to produce a current.

A battery is a number of cells connected together so that a greater current can be produced.

The capacity of a battery is measured in Amp-hour.

A 24 Amp-hour battery connected to a circuit will last 24 hours if it supplies a current of 1A.
