Radiotherapy
Cancerous cell are killed by high doses of ionising radiation.
A number of sources of
ionising radiation are focused on the cancerous cells so
that most
of the dose is
absorbed. The surrounding healthy cells also receive a lower
dose and are damaged.
Sterilise
food and surgical instruments
Food
and surgical instrument are sterilised when exposed to a high
dose of gamma.
Gamma
kills bacteria on food and surgical instruments.
