Total internal reflection happens when the angle of incidence is
bigger than the critical angle.
At the critical angle, the ray is refracted along the boundary.

If the angle
of incidence is bigger than the critical angle, the ray will reflect.
If the angle
of incidence is smaller than the critical angle, the ray will refract.
