Did you know?

Keyhole surgery uses the endoscope. A bundle of optical fibres is inserted inside the body. Light is sent down some fibres and is reflected back up the bundle to form an image.

 P1 Total Internal Reflection

Syllabus Summary Questions Answers

Total internal reflection happens when the angle of incidence is bigger than the critical angle

At the critical angle, the ray is refracted along the boundary.

If the angle of incidence is bigger than the critical angle, the ray will reflect.

If the angle of incidence is smaller than the critical angle, the ray will refract.

Light travels through an optical fibre by total internal reflection

Optical fibres are used in communications and medicine.
